EEE Alert / Spraying Scheduled for 08/29/24
:
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Mosquito Management Program is warning Connecticut residents about the risk of infection by eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile virus (WNV) this season. As of late August 2024, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has detected EEE-infected mosquitoes in Canterbury, Ledyard, North Stonington, Sterling and Voluntown. As part of the steps the program takes to minimize the potential for spread of the virus to humans, the Mosquito Management Program will be spraying for mosquitoes carrying EEE in this area of Eastern Connecticut where mammal-biting mosquitoes containing EEE have continued to be detected. Spraying will take place in the Mt. Misery area of Pachaug State Forest on the evening of Thursday, August 29 (weather pending). Entrances to the State Forest will be closed beginning at 5:00 PM on August 29, and the forest and nearby roads will be closed for the evening, re-opening at 8:00 AM on Friday, August 30.
Information on EEE and WNV, mosquito bite prevention, mosquito test results, and human infection updates can be found on the Connecticut Mosquito Management Program website at https://portal.ct.gov/mosquito.
